Time to participate in Census running out

The last chance to participate in the 2010 Census ends Friday, after which toll-free assistance phone lines will be disconnected.

"I urge residents who believe they did not receive a form, who did not mail it back or have not been contacted by a census enumerator to call 1-866-872-6868," Census Bureau Director Robert Groves said on Wednesday.

He said that Friday is the last day the Census Bureau can take interviews over its toll-free line and still have time to prepare state population counts by the statutory deadline of Dec. 31.

About 130,000 interviews were conducted through the help lines nationally over the past three months, Groves said.

Earlier during the mail-in portion of the count, an estimated 74 percent of Utahns mailed in forms — a bit higher than the national average of 72 percent. Since then, enumerators have been visiting homes that did not respond. The Deseret News

Note: Census population counts are used to determine local-level funding and the number of Utah's seats in Congress. Make sure you're counted!
