New Trendlines

The September/October issue of Trendlines features online economic resources. Find out about the vast gold mine of economic data available with a few clicks of the mouse.

For instance, check out the Utah Economic Data Viewer article on page 14. Just click on the blue UEDV icon on the right side of the page. Once you are there, you have some great tools at your disposal. You can find a wealth of information about different occupations, including what they pay in your area, in the first tool, the Utah Occupational Explorer.

This tool is a great way for anyone who's wondering what to be when they grow up, or what they should be next! It gives you a report on each occupation that gives a brief description of the occupation; tells specific Utah and sub-state wages; the outlook/projections for that occupation in Utah; licensing information if the occupation requires a license in Utah; related occupations; a list of companies in Utah that employ that occupation; the skills it requires; and what schools in Utah offer training for that job. You can also see actual current job openings for that occupation in Utah!

You can toggle between related occupations and get their reports with a single click. You can seamlessly connect to the schools' websites to look at the programs they offer. You can then print out the reports for the occupations you're interested in to compare them. It's a great tool for students to use to get acquainted with occupations they may never have heard of or to get real, accurate information about the ones they think they may want to train for. It's a great tool for parents to help their kids make decisions about their future. It's wonderful for someone contemplating a career change.

And, it's just one of the great resources the article features. You can read this article online here: http://jobs.utah.gov/wi/pubs/trendlines/septoct10/insidernews.pdf.

I'll be highlighting some of the other online resources, and other articles, in this issue of Trendlines in later posts, so please check back.
