Utah broadband efforts gets multimillion-dollar grant

A statewide effort to develop a map of available broadband services and to increase availability of the technology has received a $3.1 million infusion of funding. The supplemental grant award was announced Wednesday morning by the Governor's Office of Economic Development and hailed as away to help extend the services to more residents.

The award received from the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration will help fund what is officially called the Utah Broadband Mapping, Analysis and Planning Project. Efforts are under way to develop a statewide map of available broadband services, increase broadband adoption and extend services in the state. The Deseret News
