Five days are being been devoted to counting homeless people on the streets for the Point in Time count, which the federal government requires every other year, although Utah agencies conduct the census each year.
According to the Utah 2010 Comprehensive Report on Homelessness, there were 812 chronically homeless individuals in Utah. Roughly 35 percent lived on the streets or "places not meant for habitation." HUD defines a chronically homeless person as "an adult who has been continuously homeless for over a year or experienced homelessness more than four times in a three-year period." Deseret News
