Utah ranks 8th for business

A CNBC special report lists Utah as the eighth best state in America for business in 2011. The study reviewed all 50 states on 43 measures of competitiveness with input from business groups.

Accompanying the Beehive State in the top 10 were Virginia at No. 1 followed by Texas, North Carolina, Georgia, Colorado, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Utah at No. 8, with Iowa and Nebraska rounding out the field.

States received points based on their rankings in each measure, and separated those metrics into 10 broader categories with final ranks for each state based on the criteria they use to sell themselves to companies.
The 10 categories ranked in the study include: cost of doing business, workforce, quality of life, economy, transportation and infrastructure, technology and innovation, education, business friendliness, access to capital and cost of living. In October 2010, Utah garnered the top ranking for business by Forbes Magazine. Deseret News
