Utah consumer confidence improves

Optimism among Utah consumers climbed in July for the first time in four months, led by falling fuel prices and greater confidence in job security. Zions Bank’s consumer attitude index rose to 69.3, up a slight 3 percentage points from June, the bank said Tuesday. An index of 70 or below indicates slow economic growth.

Nationally, the Consumer Conference Board’s index rose nearly 2 percentage points in July — from an eight-month-low — as consumer attitudes about the U.S. economy’s short-term outlook brightened. The board’s index now stands at 59.5, up from a revised 57.6 reading in June. Salt Lake Tribune
