Utah lawmakers seeking to bury overhead power lines
Storms and overgrown trees can wreak havoc with overhead power lines, so lawmakers decided Tuesday to start seeking ways to finance burying them around the state.
Rep. Joel Briscoe, D-Salt Lake City, had introduced HB291 to pay for it by allowing cities to add a sales tax of one-tenth of 1 percent. But he told the House Public Utilities and Technology Committee he did that only to start discussion on the topic. He asked the committee to recommend the issue for study over the coming year, which it did. Salt Lake Tribune
