Utah consolidated its applications for low-income aid programs five years ago, transferring control over Medicaid eligibility to the Department of Workforce Services.
Previously that task fell to the Department of Health.
It was a rocky go at first, complicated by a recession-driven explosion in case loads and a $79 million upgrade of the agency’s computerized case management system. But Workforce Services, which also dispenses food stamps and cash assistance, is now doing a passable job, according to a legislative audit released Tuesday.
"Overall Medicaid eligibility is well managed," declares the audit report, which recommends only a few areas for improvement. Salt Lake Tribune
