High-tech Utah jobs on the rise

The state’s technology industry is on the upswing, which is good news for the Top of Utah.

According to a report, recently released by the Utah Technology Council which cites data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Utah Department of Workforce Services, the state’s combined technology industries accounted for 103,000 jobs in 2010, representing 8.6 percent of the Utah workforce.

The tech jobs provide an annual payroll of $6.9 billion, which is 14.3 percent of the state’s total payroll.

UTC President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Nelson said the jobs pay 57 percent more than the average non-agricultural wage.

According to the report, the total number of technology jobs increased 1.68 percent between 2009 and 2010, while national tech jobs decreased 2.18 percent during the same time period. Standard Examiner
