Grants offered to grow fruits, veggies, other speciality crops in Utah

The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food is seeking proposals for grants to aid in the growing of special crops, such as fruits, vegetables, horticulture and nursery plants.

The money will be available through the federally funded Specialty Crops Block Grant Program. The grants were authorized by the U.S. Farm Bill, which requires the U.S. Department of Agriculture to partner with state departments of agriculture to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crop producers. Areas of focus include marketing, promotion, education, research, trade, and increasing child and adult nutrition. Salt Lake Tribune
