Utah budget forecast brings good news to unemployed

Unemployed Utahns got some good news Thursday.

The Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget predicted the statewide unemployment rate will fall in 2013 to 5.4 percent, from an average of 5.7 percent last year.

The office, which soon will be renamed the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget, is anticipating that the number of jobs that will be created throughout the state in 2013 will rise to 44,000 from 39,000 last year.

It offered its projections at the Salt Lake Chamber’s Annual Economic Outlook, which was attended by more than 300 people. Salt Lake Tribune
