According to data from the Utah Sports Commission, the organization chartered with attracting sports events to Utah and continuing Utah's Olympic Legacy efforts, the state's sports industry generates $4.5 - $6 billion annually. Much of that money comes from capitalizing on events within Utah's core competencies: winter sports, action/adventure sports, golf, motor sports and Olympic legacy sports and activities.
Since 2000, nearly 450 action and outdoor sports events supported by the Utah Sports Commission have brought in over $1 billion to Utah's economy -- an average return on investment of 7.2:1 to 8:1 per dollar spent on the sporting events (from actual tax revenue collected compared to state dollars received).
