Income of Utah’s self-employed fell by 20 percent in 2009
During 2009, the income of self-employed Utahns plummeted by 20 percent. That’s according to an annual census report released Thursday about “nonemployer firms,” or those without paid employees. Real estate agents, beauticians and construction contractors are examples.
The report said that overall income by nonemployer firms in Utah dropped from $7.9 billion in 2008 to $6.3 billion in 2009. Income declines came in every major industry type in the state. Nationally, income by such firms fell by 13 percent — or about half of Utah’s rate. Salt Lake Tribune
